The power of Ceremonial Matcha

It's no secret we’ve long been inspired by the rituals of tea—the moments of stillness, the connection to nature, the way a single cup can shift your whole day. There's no denying how many of us live chaotic, busy lives, and making the choice to intentionally spend 10 minutes making a beautiful tea is a true sign of self care.

One tea that truly embodies this philosophy is matcha. Better still, Ceremonial Grade matcha. But beyond its vibrant green hue and rich flavour, matcha offers an impressive array of health benefits backed by science and centuries of tradition.

As part of our matcha launch, we're here to share more about this beautiful tea. Allow us to deep dive.

What is Ceremonial Matcha?

Ceremonial matcha is the highest grade of Japanese green tea powder, traditionally used in the Japanese tea ceremony. It’s made from young, shade-grown tea leaves that are carefully stone-ground into a fine powder. This process preserves the leaf’s full nutritional profile. Unlike regular green tea, where you steep and discard the leaves, with matcha you consume the entire leaf.

It's important to note, not all matcha is created equal. Ceremonial grade is the purest form. It's delicate, smooth and meant to be enjoyed on its own (no milk or sweetener needed to drink) and is packed with flavour and functional benefits. For those who enjoy a strawberry/flavoured milky matcha, you'll likely be more familiar with culinary matcha (which we will cover shortly.)

The benefits of ceremonial matcha

Rich in antioxidants

Matcha is particularly high in a class of antioxidants known as catechins, especially EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which is linked to reduced inflammation, improved heart health, and cellular protection. In fact, matcha contains up to 137 times more EGCG than regular green tea.

Calming focus
One of matcha’s most unique features is its natural content of L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes a state of relaxed alertness. When combined with matcha’s moderate caffeine content (about 70mg per serving), it delivers calm, sustained energy — no jitters, no crash. Ideal for long days, focused work, or mindful mornings.

Supports healthy metabolism
Research suggests that the catechins and caffeine in matcha may gently boost metabolism and support fat oxidation, making it a popular choice for those looking to support a healthy weight alongside a balanced lifestyle.

Detoxifying and alkalising
Shade-growing matcha increases its chlorophyll content, giving it that striking green colour and a gentle detoxifying effect. Chlorophyll helps the body eliminate toxins and can also support skin health and immune function.

Enhances mood and mental clarity
Thanks to the L-theanine-caffeine synergy, matcha has been shown to enhance cognitive function, including attention, memory and mood. Many people find it helps with stress resilience and mental clarity — making it a beautiful part of a daily self-care routine.

Ceremonial matcha is more than just a trend — it’s a timeless superfood with real benefits. You can also add it to smoothies or use it in recipes, but ceremonial matcha is best enjoyed traditionally to fully appreciate its flavour and effect.
