Peppermint (Mentha peperita)- Peppermint has been found to support digestion as it eases symptoms associated with indigestion such as bloating, flatulence, pain and cramping. This herb has a calming effect on the stomach muscles and helps to also encourage better bile flow, which is critical for the digestion of fats.
Peppermint is also commonly used in cold and flu remedies- to help beat the winter sniffles. Some studies have shown that it kills bacteria and viruses. It also has a calming and numbing effect which dulls the pain of an aching body and the "menthol" in peppermint effectively thins mucus and breaks up phlegm, providing relief from coughs and congestion.
